    We currently have three vacancies in Brazil.

    Agro-Economist / Sustainable Market Specialist

    Centro de Educação Comunitária Rural (CECOR), Serra Talhada, Pernambuco, Brazil
    CECOR works with the rural communities of Serra Talhada and the surrounding municipalities providing technical training in vegetable and animal production appropriate to the harsh semiarid conditions of the area, as well as the strengthening of communication and organisation.

    Working with rural producers and other NGOs, you will offer technical assistance and training to the small-scale farmers and community groups involved in 9 urban and rural communities belonging to 3 municipalities of the Semi-Arid Region of Pernambuco (Serra Talhada, Triunfo and Santa Cruz da Baixa Verde). This will be within a project focusing on the commercialisation and management of sustainable businesses based on the agro-ecological chain of value.

    Requirements for the post include: knowledge of agro-economy/ sustainable markets; experience of working with commercialisation of organic agriculture products with innovative strategies and approaches; experience of working with the organisational development of community groups on sustainable businesses; experience of working with organic agriculture and horticulture in semi-arid regions; knowledge of key environmental issues (i.e.
    desertification, biodiversity conservation); basic computer skills; knowledge of Portuguese/demonstrable language skills and commitment to learn. Ref: BRA/1209/CECOR

    Agronomist / Environmental Specialist

    Centro de Habilitação e Apoio ao Pequeno Agricultor do Araripe (CHAPADA), Araripina, Pernambuco, Brazil
    CHAPADA was established in 1994 to meet the needs of local farmers for technical knowledge appropriate to the harsh semi-arid conditions of their region. CHAPADA now works in the semi-arid region of the Araripe seeking to serve as a reference in processes and methods for promoting agro-ecology and entrepreneurship on small-scale farms, with a focus on youth leadership and gender equality.

    Your role will be to offer technical assistance and training to the small-scale farmers in agroecological production, food processing techniques and commercialisation in 9 urban and rural communities belonging to 3 municipalities of the Semiarid Region of Pernambuco (Araripina, Ipubi and Bodocó).

    Requirements for the post include: specialist knowledge as an agronomist or environmental specialist; experience of working with agro-ecological agriculture and horticulture in Semi-Arid regions; experience of working with local commercialisation of organic products; experience of working with irrigation and water management with scarce water resources; knowledge of key environmental issues (i.e. desertification, biodiversity conservation); basic computer skills; knowledge of Portuguese/demonstrable language skills and commitment to learn.     Agronomist

    Associação Quilombola de Conceição das Crioulas (AQCC), Conceição das Crioulas, Salgueiro, Pernambuco, Brazil
    Associação Quilombola de Conceição das Crioulas (AQCC) is a grassroots association that was formed in July 2000 by uniting 10 separate associations of quilombola producers and rural workers. AQCC was born out of a need to intensify the fight for the rights (in particular the right to education) of the people of Conceição das Crioulas. The objective of AQCC is community development – taking into account existing realities and historical factors.

    Promoting the potential within the community is a core value as is promoting awareness of the black community and its importance in constructing a just and equal society and challenging discrimination and racism.

    Your role will be to offer technical assistance and training to small-scale farmers and community groups on agro-ecological production, fruit processing techniques and commercialisation of organic produce in rural and urban communities located in the
    quilombola territory of Conceição das Crioulas and in the town of Salgueiro.

    Requirements for the post include: an agronomist or agronomy technician; experience of working with organic agriculture and horticulture in semi-arid regions; experience of working with local commercialisation of organic products and native fruit processing techniques; experience of working with irrigation and water management with scarce water resources; knowledge of land management projects and key environmental issues (i.e. desertification, biodiversity conservation); basic computer skills; knowledge of Portuguese/demonstrable language skills and commitment to learn.
