Irish Times features International Service's work with disabled people in Burkina Faso
Each year, the United Nations publishes its human development index. The index measures how ‘developed’ countries are by looking at factors such as health, education, life expectancy, literacy, and wellbeing.
It features 177 countries. Burkina Faso comes 176th.
International Service’s team in Ireland is working to bring hope to people with disabilities in Burkina Faso. With the support of Irish Aid, International Service has placed six skilled volunteers to work in partnership and share their expertise with disability groups and disabled communities.
In May 2009, CARL O'BRIEN - a journalist for the Irish Times - travelled to Burkina Faso to see for himself what life there is really like for people with disabilities, and how grassroots support from International Service helps begin the process of transforming daily life for those people with disabilities.
