The International Service Human Rights Awards come to York
For the first time in their eight year history, the International Service Human Rights Awards will be presented in International Service's home town of York.
The achievements of this year's award winners will be celebrated in an uplifting ceremony at York Minster on Tuesday 7th December 2010.
The awards celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations around the world working to promote human rights, and change the things that cause people to be excluded, disempowered or impoverished.
For the first time, the awards will also honour those in the Yorkshire and Humber region who are working to build a more equal society.
Matthew Snell, Chief Executive of International Service, said:
"This is a really exciting development in the story of the Human Rights Awards. We can really begin to celebrate the achievements of some exceptional award winners with the people of Yorkshire.
Yorkshire has a very strong base of organisations working in the fields of human rights and social justice, which makes it the natural home for our awards."
The awards are kindly supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Charitable Trust.
International Service is also working in close partnership with the University of York, York Minster and the City of York Council.
